This quantity includes papers from the subsequent ?ve workshops that have been a part of the whole software for the foreign convention on Extending Database know-how (EDBT) held in Heraklion, Greece, March 2004: • ICDE/EDBT Joint Ph. D. Workshop (PhD) • Database applied sciences for dealing with XML-information on the internet (DataX) • Pervasive info administration (PIM) • Peer-to-Peer Computing and Databases (P2P&DB) • Clustering details Over the internet (ClustWeb) jointly, the ?ve workshops featured sixty one high quality papers chosen from appr- imately one hundred eighty submissions. It was once, consequently, dif?cult to settle on the papers that have been to beacceptedforpresentation. Webelievethattheacceptedpaperssubstantiallycontribute to their specific ?elds of study. The workshops have been a good foundation for extreme and hugely fruitful discussions. the standard and volume of papers express that the components of curiosity for the workshops are hugely energetic. a lot of very good researchers are engaged on the aforementioned ?elds generating learn output that isn't simply of curiosity for different researchers but in addition for undefined. The organizers and contributors of the workshops have been hugely satis?ed with the output. The prime quality of the presenters and workshop contributors contributed to the luck of every workshop. the superb surroundings of Heraklion and the positioning of the EDBT convention additionally contributed to the final luck. final, yet now not least, our honest due to the convention organizers – the organizing group used to be continuously prepared to assist and if there have been issues that didn't paintings, information was once fast available.

We confirmed the feasibility of our strategy by measuring the quality metrics, namely Recall and Precision, in matching a real, tagged multilingual data set. Further, we showed that the poor performance associated with the UDF implementation of approximate matching may be improved by orders of magnitude, by employing optimization techniques. We also proposed a new SQL operator – SemEQUAL, intended for matching multilingual text attribute data based on their meanings, leveraging the rich taxonomic hierarchies in cross-linked WordNets in different natural languages.
